Game. Set. Match.

Summer is the time for tennis. And while my passion for the sport exists year long no other time of the year does it shine so brightly as in the summer. Right now my favorite professional tournament, Wimbledon, is going on and I am constantly in awe of the glamour that tennis can have.

Wimbledon is my favorite for many reasons, and the all-white attire contributes to this greatly. White shows no sweat and makes players become even more creative to wear the outfit that everyone talks about (hello, Nadal's pink shirt at the French Open?).

Right now I am hoping for a Williams sisters final and maybe an Andy R-Andy M final on the men's side, although this would mean Roger losing in the semis to Andy Murray. Tennis will always be stylish as Wimbledon proves to me every year, now I am just more motivated than ever to go pick up my racket and play.

Melanie Oudin the 17 year old American made me believe that maybe American tennis has a future after Venus and Serena.

Roger never fails to make it look effortless.

SYTYCD week 3.

The title of this post should really be 'Mia Michaels is a goddess': my favorite dance from this week.

Is Karl referencing American history?

Chanel Resort 2010 @ the other chicWhile the clothes themselves did not impress me that much, the entire Chanel 2009-10 resort show did. After watching the first minute of the show on youtube I was a bit puzzled to say the least. The show begins with a model in a black cape and baroque-style cap running onto the runway. This image struck me as an odd homage to Paul Revere and the way that he warned people that something grand and big and massive was coming. Was the model giving the audience the same warning? So I don't exactly have Karl on speed dial to ask him about his intentions for the opening of his show, but I do think he might have just made some American history buffs like me very happy indeed.

Jack and Lazaro do Resort.

And they do it well. Previously, I thought that the Proenza Schouler aesthetic wouldn't translate well for a resort collection, yet obviously I have been proven very very wrong (see evidence below). I have posted my six favorite looks from the collection and the place I would want to wear each one. It's like a combination of Vogue and Travel + Leisure!

Proenza Scholer resort @ the other chic
Very surfer, a little dark: Tofino, Canada

Proenza Scholer resort @ the other chicBeachy and fabric with Asian vibes: Koh Phi Phi Island, Thailand

I can't help myself

This dance is too sick not to be posted. Watch Ade, he is incredible.

There's something in the coffee.

I don't know what it is about coffee, there must be some secret ingredient in it that only industry insiders are privvy while the whole world sips obliviously. As a stereotypical Seattlelite, my day is not complete without a Starbucks. And while I admit to liking Peets better than Starbucks, I continue to religiously drink Starbucks. "The Way I See It" quotes on the back of cups combined with free iTunes songs keeps me going back day after day. Coffee brings us together in silly idiosyncratic ways, yet it does it nonetheless. Maybe it's best that we remain ignorant of coffee's secret ingredient and just let it work its magic.

So You Think You Can Dance week 2

At this point I have probably seen this dance ten times. Not only is the dancing superb, but the costumes and the music contribute heftily as well. I love Melissa and Ade: incredible dancers.

Now I just need to know where I can get a pair of neon pink side ripped leggings.

Under the influence

So after lusting after Influence on bookstore bookshelves for months and months I finally bought it today and it was worth every penny. I may have thought I liked the Olsens before I bought their book about the people that have influenced them and really just life and fashion in general, yet I realize now how much more admiration I have for them after just barely scratching the surface of their book. If you haven't already, I would highly reccomend rushing to your nearest bookstore and purchasing a copy.

I wanna be at Bonnarooooooo

Earlier today I was telling a friend that all I want to do this summer is go to music festivals and wear flowers in my hair. Here are some pics of the well-dresssed ladies at Bonnaroo Music Festival living my dream.

The soundtrack to my summer.

Dont you love her already?

I just added a playlist to the blog (see panel on right) so that there will be something nice for you to listen to as you peer and peruse. My new musical obsession is the Swedish Lykke Li. Every summer I always have that one song or smattering of a few songs that define the summer. This summer Little Bit by Lykke Li may just be that song.

My shirt is a kaleidoscope of your mind.

No summer can be complete without a tie-dying session. So of course my sister and I took advantage of the Orange County sunshine and made some white garb prettier.

Friends make friends wear Chloé

I love Chloe Sevigny. I love Kate Bosworth (and she looks fabulous). I love Chloe's combination of the navy blue silk and ruffly romper with the tailored men's jacket. And of course the red lipstick doesn't hurt either. I could just stare at this photo all day long...

SYTYCD week 1 favorite.

So my favorite summer tv show, So You Think You Can Dance, has officially started and I couldn't be more excited. Last night's dances made me want to leap from my couch and do a split leap, unfortunately I am not that talented. Overall though, Philip and Jeanine take home my prize for the best dance of the week. Jeanine is gorgeous and incredibly talented and Phillip is just out of this world. Sickkk dance.

Homegrown talent

Although I do sometimes wince a little at the grocery store when I see the woman wearing the teva-sock combination (especially during summertime), Seattle is one place where the artist thrives and no one can deny that.

That being said, my type of artist is a rare one indeed. I can appreciate many types and forms of art, yet most are not worthy of blogging about. Most, that is, except Chrissie White. I think I discovered her amazing photgraphic talent one day while perusing lookbook and searching for fellow sylish Seattlelites.

Her photography encompasses that innate talent for capturing the perfect moment along with a knack for coming up with some of the most creative set ups I have ever seen. Almost completely inexplicable, her photography has really got me weak in the knees. And while I could ramble on for hours, I think it will be better to let you see it for yourself.

We bring peace and flowers.

neo-hippie on railroad tracks @ theotherchic Found this photo on flickr and couldn't help but post it.

Is it hip to be a hippie? While I am not sure I have an answer to this question I think the whole question ties back to what neo-hippies are in the first place. Are they just people who dress in 60s-esque garb and pose with their fingers in the peace sign for pictures? Or is there something more to earning the title of a neo-hippie?

While I am a vegetarian and try to recycle and often wear the famous "hippie band" I am not sure I am worthy of the title. The true hippies are the people from the 60s who stood for something, something a whole lot bigger than a fashion statement. So while I still may wear my tie-dye at times and shop at Whole Foods, I think there is a whole lot more to being a hippie than meets the eye.

My obsession with Alice and Wonderland began with this photo shoot by Annie Leibovitz for Vogue in 2003. It's just such a brilliant combination with the model in the Alice dress designed by the designers who get to play Lewis Caroll dress up too.

The OC

Ryan and Marissa from the OC @ theotherchic The perfect OC couple, Marissa and Ryan (too bad they never lasted).

So here I am visiting my grandmother in Newport Beach, CA, the beloved location of my used-to-be favorite tv show, The OC. Ever since arriving here yesterday, my first observations have been of the excessive amounts of Mercedes, Lexuses, and Ranger Rovers and the the preppiness that seems to surround this place. Eating lunch this afternoon at the yacht club I saw a lady who, to me, epitomized what I think of as the classic prep.

She was probably in her mid-forties and had a blue and white striped collared long sleeve shirt with white shorts and some Rainbow sandals. She was perfectly tanned as if we were already months into summer and her hair was short and cropped to perfection. Although I don't care to emulate her style because to be honest I don't really love the whole preppy thing, she did seem so classic to me. She seemed as if she could have been sitting on the deck of th yacht club thirty years ago and fit in just perfectly. So while I'm still too young to trade my more hip style for the classic stylings of J. Crew, maybe in a couple of decades I will be that classic preppy lady at the yacht club.

Standardized tests are silly.

We all take it. We all sit in the crowded room next to strangers who ask obnoxious questions at inopportune times and chew with their mouth open at breaks. The SAT provides a commonality for all college-bound teenagers across the country. Yet, the test is utimately no more an indication of how smart you are than the last English essay you wrote. I hate the way that kids flaunt their scores as if a better score makes someone a better person. But to some degree we all buy into it. Consciously or not, I feel better about myself when I hear someone talking about a score they got that was lower than mine.

So tomorrow morning I will wake up early and be force-fed a "well balanced" breakfast to make me "smarter". The SAT goes against all of my beliefs in education, that intelligence is not objective, but rather a subjective matter. Regardless, though, of my personal opinion I will still take the test and religiously wait to see my scores and feel either the excitement or the disappointment as college begins to seem that much closer (or farther away).

For all those who will take the SAT tomorrow morning, good night and good luck.

The Wait is Over

Michelle Moore sneakers and party dresses @ theotherchic
There is a never a better time than summer to wear frilly dresses and sneakers and do silly things.

So I feel awful and guilty for not writing for so long. School and tennis have kept me more than occupied for the last month. Now that school is over and I have copious amounts of time to write and mindlessly browse the internet I promise to write more. I would try to fill everyone in on what I have neglected to write about in the last month, but in the true style of the fashion industry I won't discuss the past. What's done is done and now it's only about what's now (or so they say...). So here's to the beginning of the best summer yet. A time to be bronze and beautiful and incredibly granola, nothing beats summer.
